Three year old peeks out the window at the blue-white world. She asks to make a snowman. Quietly we go downstairs and put her snow pants on right over the nightgown. Our front yard friend is built and accessorized before anyone else wakes up.

I must confess we bought a kit this year, but we brainstormed and broke out all our other candy/decor options.M made the leap from simply eating/watching/playing to selecting candies and designing the Gingerbread House. It was a true team effort this year.

Been quiet around here on the blog. So much to feel, little to say. I shot this a month ago looking over Saugerties just hours after my mother passed away. This time may be a blur when I look back, but I am reassured daily by the gestures big and small of the people in my life. I know these are the things that will stay with me. Even the possibility of a great holiday comes to light with a friend saying “have a very special Christmas this year, honor yer Mama, celebrate her, and each other.”

Oh, how we love Halloween in our family. It’s quick and such big fun. We go to town and get to see hundreds of people in costume while the kids trick or treat at the stores. Traffic is stopped and I am reminded constantly how much I love people because of how they make me laugh.

Here’s the flourless chocolate cake I mentioned. It can be made and baked in half an hour. I cut the baking time by a few minutes after experimenting…it truly hits the chocolate spot if you’ve got a craving.
